The Complete 5 days SSB Procedure Explained

The Complete 5 days SSB Procedure Explained

Day ZERO

  • The candidates report to the Railway station(Most often) and they are filled in SSB vehicles (like a flock of sheep PS: I'm just kidding) and taken to the SSB center mostly in the afternoon
  • The documents are checked and verified and then the candidates are grouped into freshers (new borns),screened out (toddlers)  and repeaters(veterans)
  • Then the candidates are allotted chest numbers mostly according to their Date Of Birth
  • Many of the SSB boards don’t have a Day ZERO at all .In entries where the number of candidates applying is very high and if the SSB doesn’t have enough resources then all the above said things are done on Day ONE
  • Fun Fact:This is the last night in SSB for those who are going to get screened out the next day

Day ONE

  • All the things mentioned in day ZERO done if  you don’t have a day ZERO(Very unlucky guys ;D))
  • A series of two aptitude tests especially named as OIR(Officer Intelligence Rating) tests are conducted.Dont panic here because the kind of questions asked are very simple and easy like number series, odd man out, letter series, image sequences etc.
  • Most of the times there are two papers consisting of 50 questions each and half an hour is given for each test but it can change (according to the mood of the officer on that day I guess )
  • Next is the Mahabharat PPDT(Picture perception and description test)
  • You are shown a very hazy picture for 30 seconds and are given 5 mins to write a story(But the problem is you don’t have a watch and cannot judge if 5 minutes are exactly given to you )
  • Then you are divided into groups of  10-15 students depending on the number of candidates and take into a room
  • Every candidate has to tell his story to the group within a minute
  • Then the group is allowed to discuss the stories and come to a consensus(But actually everybody is shouting and screaming to their top and if you are lucky enough then you must be put in  one of the Buddha Groups)
  • Everyone is given a sumptuous lunch(My advice : Fill your tummy to the top)
  • Then the results are announced and those not selected are straight away taken to the Railway Station and dropped back(You get your ticket fare if you are a fresher)
  • Candidates are made to fill the PIQ(Personal Information Questionnaire) forms
  • New chest numbers are given and barracks(Billets) are allotted

Day TWO(The Psychology Day)

  • A series of test are conducted
  • TAT(Thematic Apperception Test)(Story Writing 11 pictures-1 blank)
  • WAT(Word Association Test) (60 words-15 seconds each)
  • SRT(Situation Reaction Test)(60 situations-30 minutes)
  • SDT(Self Description Test)(5 subheadings-15 minutes)
  • Interviews are conducted for a handful of candidates
  • In the afternoon you can go for sight seeing if you are lucky enough and have your SSB centre in a good tourist city(Like my city:Mysuru)

Day THREE(The GTO 1 Day)(GTO-Group Task Officer)

  • Candidates are divided into groups of 8-10-12(not exact figures) based on the number of candidates
  • Various tests are conducted
  • GD 1(Group Discussion-You are allowed to choose a topic out of two)
  • GD 2(Topic given by the officer)
  • Group planning Exercise(A real life situation is given to you and you have to solve it, keeping in mind there are various problems to be solved)
  • PGT(Progressive Group Task)
  • Snake Race
  • HGT(Half Group Task)
  • Interviews are conducted and that’s the end of day 3 testing.

Day FOUR(The GTO 2 Day)(GTO-Group Task Officer)

  • 7.IO(Individual Obstacles)
  •  8.Command Task
  • 9.Individual Lecurette
  • 10.FGT(Final Group Task)
  • The remaining interviews are conducted and every test of the SSB gets completed
  • Another day of picnic and enjoying with your friends(Believe me, some of the friends made during SSB will remember you forever)

Day FIVE(The Final Day)

  • This day is called the conference day
  • In some SSB centres one of the officer talks to the candidates well before the conference begins and explain about requirements of candidates and what they are expecting out of a person
  • You are taken into the conference hall where all the officers of the board get to see you and one of the officer asks few normal questions to you
  • Again you are given a sumptuous lunch(Eat to the fullest)
  • Then the results are announced
  • And all those who don’t clear are taken back to Railway station and dropped back
  • Those who get recommended are made to fill heaps of forms
